Leverhulme Director in Residence
Sergio Mendes is the 2011-2012 Leverhulme Director in Residence
Catrin Osborne was the 2010-2011 Leverhulme Director in Residence.
Catrin has worked professionally as a circus performer specialising in rope and harness, both nationally and internationally for 13 years. Highlights include The Friedrichstadtpalast, Berlin (‘04-‘05), The Clod Ensemble (06), and ‘Strings on Strings’, directed by Layla Rosa which was nominated for the Jeunes Talents Cirque Award (’09). She has also been teaching aerial for the past 5 years in London and in New York at S.L.A.M in Brooklyn.
Last year she completed a master of Arts degree at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in ‘Performance Design and Practice’, where she adapted, conceived and directed a 40 min theatre and circus show inspired by the book ‘Postcards From The Edge’ by Carrie Fisher.
Since embarking on the role of Director in Residence at The Circus Space, she has directed circus graduates in ‘Turning Point’ at The Roundhouse, assisted Brian Burke (director in residence at La Reve, Las Vegas) in directing a harness performance for Sony Music on the X Factor, as well as curating ‘Wanted’ a 30 minute circus show at the Old Vic Tunnels for ‘Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ from L.A.
She is currently working on an adaptation of ‘Birdie’ by William Wharton for stage and in Autumn 2011 she studied under the critical eye of the renowned theatre teacher Philippe Gaulier in Paris, to further develop her skills in devising for theatre.
