Entry requirements

Foundation Degree

  • Applicants must be 18 or over on entry
  • Applicants must hold a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts or 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above, including English or 3 GCSE’s and 2 A Level passes or equivalent. Candidates who are able to demonstrate their potential to successfully complete a degree programme will also be considered on the basis of previous professional experience.
  • Applicants will be able to demonstrate their intent to pursue professional employment in circus arts.
  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate a proficiency in both written and verbal English language. For the Foundation Degree in Circus Arts this would normally be GCSE English or equivalent International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at 6.0 pass level or higher.

BA (Hons) Degree

Applicants to the BA (Hons) Degree programme should hold an appropriate qualification from one of the recognised circus schools listed below:

  • Circus Space
  • Centre National des Arts du Cirque (France)
  • Ecole Superieure des Arts du Cirque (Belgium)
  • University College of Dance/Cirkuspiloterna (Sweden)
  • Turku Polytechnic Arts Academy (Finland)

Any candidate applying for direct entry to the BA (Hons) Programme from any of these institutions must provide evidence that they have successfully completed two years training on a relevant course.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate a proficiency in both written and verbal English language which would normally be GCSE English or equivalent International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at 6.0 pass level or higher.

Postgraduate Certificate

  • Admission is by audition and interview. All students submitting an application for the course will be asked to audition.
  • Students should have a mature attitude and commitment to study and be able to provide evidence of circus performance experience. No specific upper age limit is set for mature students.
  • Indicative requirements would normally require a degree at Level 6 in addition to a Foundation Degree in Circus Arts or equivalent from a recognised circus training institution. Additional requirements could include for example a BA (Hons) Degree in a performance related subject.
  • Applications from candidates who are able to demonstrate their potential to successfully work at postgraduate level may also be considered.
  • Applicants will have to show clearly their vocational intent and potential for professional employment in contemporary circus performance.
  • A satisfactory medical fitness report signed by both a physiotherapist and a doctor is required.
